Brief: ADL Mechanical & Electrical Contractors Ltd have been contracted to provide the Design Development; Supply; Installation & Commissioning of the mechanical & plumbing at Emporium Building Commerical Birmingham.
Located in the newly constructed, 15-storey Emporium Tower on Bartholomew Row in central Birmingham, we completed the comprehensive mechanical and plumbing fit-out for Empiric Student Property’s central staff headquarters. While the striking, contemporary tower houses premium student apartments on its upper levels, the ground floor was specifically designed to serve as a fully functional, professional corporate office. Our team delivered robust, energy-efficient HVAC systems, high-quality environmental controls, and reliable plumbing infrastructure throughout the space, ensuring a comfortable and highly productive modern commercial workspace to support Empiric's daily corporate operations.

ADL Mechanical & Electrical Contractors Ltd completed the comprehensive design development, supply, installation, and commissioning of the mechanical and plumbing systems for Empiric's central office fit-out at the Emporium in Birmingham. Our work ensured this dedicated corporate workspace was equipped with robust, modern infrastructure to support daily operations.
Key Mechanical & Plumbing Works
Air Conditioning & Climate Control:
We installed a comprehensive Toshiba air conditioning system to provide reliable heating and cooling throughout the office spaces. The installation features outdoor condensing units connected to multi-port flow selector boxes, feeding a combination of ducted and ceiling-mounted cassette fan coil units. The system is managed via a central controller for scheduled operation, alongside localized controllers allowing occupants to adjust mode, temperature, and fan speed in individual areas.
Ventilation & Heat Recovery
To guarantee high indoor air quality, we fitted ceiling-mounted Toshiba heat recovery units equipped with plate heat exchangers. These units efficiently temper incoming fresh air using the heat from the extracted stale air before supplying it to the workspace via galvanized steel ductwork.
Targeted Extraction
We installed dedicated extract systems utilizing Systemair inline fans for the toilet areas and kitchenette, ensuring a sufficient air change rate in these specific zones.
Plumbing & Water Services:
We delivered complete hot and cold water services throughout the fit-out using fully insulated copper pipework. The cold water system was seamlessly connected to the existing landlord supply, while hot water is efficiently produced on-demand via localized ZIP electric water heaters.
Above Ground Drainage:
Our team installed a complete U-PVC above-ground drainage system, featuring trapped water points to prevent odours. All new drainage was carefully routed to connect into the building's existing soil and vent pipes (SVPs) and stub stacks.
Supplementary Heating:
To complement the primary climate systems and ensure comfort at entry points, we installed a Thermoscreens overdoor heater and a Milano electric wall heater.
